About the JBT

The Joint Benefit Trust Health and Welfare Plan is known as a “multiemployer” trust fund. The plan was established effective January 1, 1974, to provide health and welfare benefits to employees of Participating Employers of the Joint Benefit Trust (JBT). It operates under the terms established by the National Labor Relations Act (1935), as amended by the Labor-Management Relations (Taft-Hartley) Act (1947), which permits a group of employers to contribute money into a trust fund established for the exclusive benefit of employees and their eligible dependents.

The plan is funded by monthly contributions from Participating Employers, paid on behalf of eligible employees and their eligible dependents. In addition, in some cases, employees may be able to self-pay for a period of time when they are not covered by Participating Employer contributions.

Contributions are held in trust to pay insurance benefits for plan participants (i.e., employees and their eligible dependents), including medical, prescription drugs, dental, vision, mental health, substance abuse and chemical dependency, chiropractic care, and life insurance.

The Joint Benefit Trust Health and Welfare Plan is maintained under the labor agreement between the California Processors, Inc. and the Teamsters California State Council of Cannery and Food Processing Unions and other Collective Bargaining Agreements. Copies of these agreements are available by written request to JBT's Administrative Office.
